WESTERN Bulldogs defender Jason Johannisen's availability for Sunday's clash against Adelaide is in doubt after a training mishap.

The Norm Smith medallist had his right ankle assessed by medical staff after training, but has not had a scan.

He will be monitored over the next 48 hours before a decision is made on whether he'll be able to play.

It's a further blow to an already weakened Bulldogs backline, with Zaine Cordy also set to miss two to four weeks with a chest muscle strain.

In positive news for the Dogs, Taylor Duryea and Matt Suckling have begun top-speed running as they close in on returns from quad and hamstring injuries respectively.

Hayden Crozier is expected to miss another week or two with his toe injury.

The 10th-placed Bulldogs (5-6) sit a game and percentage outside of the top eight ahead of the clash with the winless Crows at Metricon Stadium.
