RANK outsider Sydney will be hoping it can force a boilover when it takes on crosstown rival Greater Western Sydney at Optus Stadium in Perth from 6.10pm AWST (8.10pm AEST) tonight.

While the second-bottom Swans are chasing just their fourth win for the year, GWS is desperate for the four points so it can move ahead of Collingwood and Richmond to solidify its spot in the top eight. 

The game kickstarts round 12, with both teams enjoying a bye in round 11.

In round 10, Sydney had a narrow and controversial loss to Collingwood in which debutant Sam Wicks was hurled into the spotlight after wearing illegal boots that were the cause of a nasty accident to young Magpie Isaac Quaynor.

Greater Western Sydney's round 10 victory was also close and not without controversy. The Giants scraped home against Essendon by four points after former skipper Cal Ward exaggerated contact, received a free, and slotted the match-winning goal.

In the aftermath of that game, Ward revealed he had received death threats.

Both teams are introducing debutants tonight, with Sydney naming speedy half-forward Zac Foot and GWS picking former country footballer Tom Hutchesson who was taken with the club's final pick in the 2019 NAB AFL Draft.
