British megastar Robbie Williams staged one of Queensland’s most memorable rock concerts on Wednesday night at Suncorp Stadium dressed proudly in a Vodafone Brisbane Lions Guernsey.The 52,000-strong audience erupted into cheers at the beginning of the show when Williams took off his jacket to reveal the maroon, blue and gold Guernsey. The image of Williams’ high energy performance in Lions gear was captured perfectly by The Gold Coast Bulletin newspaper.The charismatic singer of worldwide hits such as Rock DJ, Let Me Entertain You and Angels was a huge hit with the crowd at the first Brisbane show on his Close Encounters tour.Some Vodafone Brisbane Lions stars had ‘close encounters’ of their own with Williams during a chance meeting earlier in the week. Players including Jonathan Brown, Luke Power and Simon Black had an exclusive opportunity to meet with the performer and discuss the finer details of Aussie Rules.Williams is no stranger to Australian Football and told the Lions that he occasionally stays up late to watch the AFL match of the day live from London.The team presented Williams with an honorary Lions Guernsey and football as a keepsake from his time in Brisbane. To their surprise, Williams decided to don the Guernsey for almost half of Wednesday’s concert.The Vodafone Brisbane Lions connection continued throughout Williams’ performance, as he made regular references both to the Lions team and centre-half forward Jonathan Brown.
