Patrick Dangerfield heads the list, with the Geelong superstar aiming to become just the sixth player to be selected in eight separate All-Australian sides.

Should he earn his place in the team later this week, Dangerfield would join illustrious company in Gary Ablett snr, Gary Ablett jnr, Lance Franklin, Robert Harvey and Mark Ricciuto in becoming an eight-time All-Australian.

His Cats teammates Mark Blicavs, Cam Guthrie, Tom Hawkins and Sam Menegola have also been included in the squad.

Port Adelaide's Travis Boak is gunning for his third selection in the All-Australian team, but fellow Power players Zac Butters, Darcy Byrne-Jones, Charlie Dixon and Tom Jonas are all aiming to receive their first ever blazers.

Collingwood and West Coast have the next most representatives behind Geelong and Port Adelaide with four players each in the squad, while Brisbane, Fremantle, Melbourne, Richmond and the Western Bulldogs each have three players included.

A total of 15 sides have been represented in the 40-man squad, with Adelaide, Gold Coast and North Melbourne the only teams not to have a single player named.

Gawn and Nic Naitanui are vying for the ruck position, with dual All-Australian ruckman Brodie Grundy and Kangaroos veteran Todd Goldstein both controversially left out of the squad.

Melbourne defender Steven May, Essendon speedster Adam Saad, Sydney midfielder Luke Parker and Gold Coast backman Sam Collins are also notable absentees from the 40-man group.
