WEST Coast has been dealt a massive blow on the eve of the finals with star midfielder Elliot Yeo ruled out for the remainder of the season.

Yeo has not played since round 11 with a groin injury, but had hoped to get back for the finals.

"Unfortunately with Elliot we've reached a bit of a stalemate in terms of the progress with his OP (osteitis pubis)," GM of football Craig Vozzo told the club's website.

"We haven't been able to elevate his training to the level required to give him the chance to play.

"The pain levels for Elliot are too great, and the medical advice is we’re better off taking a long-term approach, which we need to do.

"Elliot's extremely disappointed, but we’re going to have to obviously put his season on ice.

"We’re obviously very disappointed too, but we had no choice in this circumstance. It’s the right thing from a medical point-of-view to get him right for the long-term."

Star defender Jeremy McGovern is tracking better than expected as he recovers from a hamstring injury suffered in round 17.

McGovern will go through a fitness test ahead of West Coast's elimination final against Collingwood next week, while Luke Shuey (hamstring), Jack Redden (thumb), Mark Hutchings (hamstring) and Lewis Jetta (calf) should all be available for selection.

Star forward Josh Kennedy is also recovering well from an ankle tweak in round 18 and Jamie Cripps will be available as he reintegrates with the team, following the birth of his son Reif.
