HARRY O’Brien and Leon Davis have both been nominated for the AFL Goal of the Year.

O’Brien was nominated for his brilliant play in the first quarter of the match, where he stole the ball from St Kilda’s Stephen Milne and went forward to finish with a brilliant goal.

Davis was recognised for his skilful play when he managed to collect the loose ball from going out of bounds while evading the tackle from Jason Blake and snapping a sensational goal.

Pies fans can vote for their favourite goal at www.afl.com.au/markgoal. Voting is open from the Monday after each round through to the following Sunday night.

In 2008, the winner of the AFL Goal of the Year award will receive;

  • $5000 for their grassroots club
  • A crystal replica of the official perpetual AFL Goal of the Year trophy
  • The Phil Manassa Medal

At the end of the 22 round AFL Premiership season, the AFL All-Australian Selection Committee will decide the overall winner from the 22 weekly winners.

The awards will be the presented during 2008 AFL Grand Final week.
