MELBOURNE'S Michael Newton has been cleared of any serious neck injury and released from Cairns Base Hospital on Saturday.
Newton was stretchered from the field during the third quarter of Melbourne's NAB Challenge match against Richmond on Friday night after hurting his neck in a clash of heads.
"We took all the precautions possible because he had a lot of neck pain," Melbourne club doctor Andrew Daff said.
"We are satisfied after x-rays and a CT scan that Michael has no neck bone damage and we will assess him again during the week."
