Hawthorn utility Cameron Bruce will be sidelined for four to six weeks after scans confirmed an injury to his posterior cruciate ligament.

Bruce suffered the injury during the first quarter of Tuesday's match against Geelong.

Bruce continued to play out the remainder of the match, however scans later revealed the level of injury. Surgery will not be required.

Veteran Bruce has played every game this season since moving across from Melbourne at the end of last season.
