PORT Adelaide has confirmed its interest in young ruckman Daniel Gorringe, who has told Gold Coast he wants to return home to South Australia.
The No.10 pick in the 2010 NAB AFL Draft wants more opportunity to play senior football, having fallen behind Zac Smith, Tom Nicholls and Charlie Dixon in the Suns' ruck stocks.
The 22-year-old has nominated the Power as his preferred destination, however atrade will need to be struck, given Gorringe remains contracted to the Sunsuntil the end of the 2015 season.
Port list manager Jason Cripps said the club would work with the Suns to try and reach a trade that's fair to both parties.
"We welcome the news that Daniel Gorringe has nominated Port Adelaide as his nominated club but the bottom line is he is contracted to the Gold Coast Suns," Cripps said.
"We are respectful of that and therefore are committed to ensuring a fair trade can be reached that benefits all parties."
Gorringe's manager Marty Pask, from Essentially Group management, confirmed the ruckman's desire to seek a fresh start.
He said Gorringe sought increased playing time at senior level.
The Power are also hoping to bring in Essendon ruckman Patrick Ryder, who has expressed his interest in playing at Alberton in 2015.
Should Ryder become a Port player as expected, the club would gain immense ruck depth.
Matthew Lobbe will enter 2015 on the back of a career-best season, Jarrad Redden is rehabilitating from injury and the club has two young key forward/rucks developing in Mitch Harvey and Mason Shaw.
But on Wednesday Pask said the Power's depth was of no concern given Gorringe's desire for more opportunity.
"It's up to Dan at the end of the day in terms of how he buys in," Pask told AFL NAB Trade Radio.
"I look at the Gold Coast, there's probably three genuine ruckmen at the moment that get an opportunity.
"Port Adelaide, where they use Paddy Ryder that's up to them and then obviously Lobbe…Ken Hinkley needed that second ruckman this year and [a] genuine ruckman."
Gorringe has managed 20 games in four seasons at Gold Coast, with his time at the Suns limited by hamstring, ankle and Achilles injuries.
