THE WESTERN Bulldogs are refusing to trade defender Marcus Adams to Brisbane.

Meanwhile, a new deal for injured onballer Tom Liberatore is coming soon.

As reported on Sunday, Adams told the Dogs over the weekend he wanted to become a Lion.

However, Western Bulldogs list and recruiting manager Sam Power told reporters on Monday that wouldn't be happening.

"Marcus signalled that intention over the weekend, that he would like a fresh start at Brisbane," Power said.

"From our end, Marcus has got two more years on a contract, so he's a required player at the Western Bulldogs."

Foot, ankle and finger injuries have kept him to just 27 games since he was drafted at No.35 in the 2015 NAB AFL Draft.

Adams inked a contract extension in May last year to keep him at the club until the end of 2020.

"We'll hold him to the contract. He's a required player," Power said.

Lions football manager David Noble told reporters there had been some conversation between the two clubs already.

"We started some preliminary discussions with the Doggies yesterday. We didn't catch up with them today, we had a few other things with Linc (McCarthy) and catching up with Freo (regarding Lachie Neale), but again, at least we've got 10 days to work our way through that," Noble said.

He was keen for more communication between the two sides.

"I'm not sure they're playing hardball but certainly we'd like to have discussions with them to see where that's going to land," Noble said.

Adams, 25, had previously shown interest in returning to his native Western Australia

Liberatore, 26, hasn't signed a new deal but that is imminent.

"We're really confident that Tom will be at the Bulldogs. We're pretty close to finalising something there," Power said.

Restricted free agent Jordan Roughead is exploring his options, having met with West Coast, while fringe Richmond forward Sam Lloyd is on track to be traded to the Dogs.
