ST KILDA has upgraded Cameron Shenton to the senior list for 2015.

The 24-year-old has spent three seasons on the Saints’ rookie list and has played 14 AFL matches.

The running defender debuted in round 22, 2013 against Gold Coast before playing 13 matches this season.

After three years as a rookie, Shenton said he was rapt to sign his first senior contract, a one-year deal, and was keen to secure a full-time role in defence.

"I've really enjoyed playing at half-back and am stoked to have signed on with the club," Shenton said in a club statement.

"I think that rebounding role suits me, but if I can increase my fitness over the summer I'm hoping I can push up the ground."

St Kilda coach Alan Richardson was full of praise for Shenton's competitiveness and professionalism.

"Cameron is a terrific one-on-one player," Alan Richardson said.

"He reads the game well, has a great dash of speed, and isn't afraid to take the contest on.

"It was impressive that he played more than half the season in the AFL team this year, and it didn't really matter what role we asked him to perform – his endeavour and work ethic was always of the highest quality."
