MELBOURNE has woken to blue skies and sunshine on Grand Final morning, but it's fresh.

While forecasts earlier in the week had predicted rain to fall throughout the match, the Bureau of Meteorology is now tipping just a 20 per cent chance of showers throughout Saturday morning.

That is likely to clear in time for the 2.30pm AEST start, which should be music to the ears of the game's tall timber such as West Coast's Josh Kennedy and Collingwood's Mason Cox.

Rain had fallen throughout the Grand Final Parade on Friday morning and into Friday night, but it's likely to be a dry Grand Final when the Eagles meet the Pies at the MCG.

It was a relatively still and sunny morning in the sporting capital, with winds not tipped to go beyond speeds of around 15-20km throughout the afternoon.

Partly cloudy skies, with not much sunshine, is anticipated for the game with a cool temperature of around 14C.
