MAGPIE Anthony Rocca and Hawthorn's Chance Bateman will not play in Saturday's clash at the MCG, with their withdrawals confirmed ahead of the bounce.

Rocca, 30, was a late omission from the Magpies' Anzac Day clash with Essendon last Friday, with what Mick Malthouse described as, "a couple of niggles that players his age get from time to time".

"He's been a bit sore during the week," chief of football operations Geoff Walsh told 3AW before Saturday's match.

He will be replaced by 20-year-old Ryan Cook, who comes in to play his second straight game and fifth career match.

Bateman, 26, has played every game this season and has not missed a match since round six last year.

Replacing Bateman is power forward Stuart Dew, who has been missing since round two with a hamstring injury.

The Hawks will start with Dew, Xavier Ellis, Simon Taylor and Ben McGlynn on the bench, while the Pies will have Cook, Leon Davis, Alan Didak and Shane O'Bree on the pine.

Collingwood skipper Scott Burns will also return for his 250th game after nursing a calf complaint he sustained after round three.
