MELBOURNE great Garry Lyon says he is not in any position to help try to correct the Demons' dwindling fortunes despite growing calls for him to do so.

After Melbourne's second-straight capitulation at the weekend, this time in a 148-point loss to Essendon,

Lyon revealed his phone was ringing off the hook from desperate Demons people urging him to help the embattled club.

But Lyon, who was part of the panel that selected coach Mark Neeld, said it was not up to him to turn the club around.

"My phone didn't stop the whole night during from Melbourne people - former players, supporters saying 'do something,'" Lyon said on Channel Nine on Monday night.

"Well, it is time for someone else to do something.

"I can't do it - circumstances don't allow me to do it professionally. And it is not something I am involved or interested in doing."

While Neeld is under increased pressure as the losses mount, Lyon said he still has faith in the current football department.

Greater Western Sydney coach Kevin Sheedy, who has been through it all during his 29-year coaching career, said it was important for Melbourne to stay unified.

"I think you need all the support you can (get) in the club," Sheedy told SEN on Tuesday morning.

"You have losses, you've just got to hang in there and work through it.

"It's a very different experience for a coach and you get to know your friends and who your loyal people are."

Some have already started to question Neeld's approach, but Sheedy said it was important for him to remain steadfast in his coaching methods.

"Sometimes you've got to be strong in your own willpower that you’ve got to do it," Sheedy said.

"You just need to be able to make sure that everybody's on-side and sit down and work on the overall plan that you've put out there."

The master coach said it was imperative for the club to stand behind Neeld and the current administration.

"The worst thing to do is lose your self belief. You get out there and you play with your 100 per cent best shot in life and that's the most important thing to do."

"Eventually you work your way out of it and Melbourne will."
