COLLINGWOOD has secured exciting former US college basketball player Mason Cox.

Cox, who stands an imposing 211.4 centimetres tall, will join the Magpies in August as a category B rookie.

Collingwood's list manager Derek Hine said the club was delighted to beat out a number of other teams to secure the signature of the tallest player ever measured at an AFL Combine.

"We’re delighted Mason has decided to join us and we believe he will be a long term player for the club,” Hine said.

"Mason’s testing results stack up favourably against athletes who havenever played football previously but have successfully made thetransition to the AFL.

"Mason is very clear in the challenges he faces in his transition to AFL,but he is a competitive young man who is going to attack the task withintent.

"He is really up for the opportunity."

Cox, 23, only got his first taste of AFL football in late April when he tested impressively at the US International Combine in Los Angeles.
