DESPITE missing the final five games of the season with a knee injury, Fremantle fans have named Michael Walters as their player of the year.

Speedy recruit Brad Hill was another to rate well as Docker fans gave their end-of-season verdict in an AFL.com.au survey.

Veteran small forward Hayden Ballantyne got the thumbs down as the most disappointing player in a year that featured few purple patches for the Dockers.

They recovered from a poor start to peak at fifth on the ladder, before running out of gas to finish 14th.

Fremantle is on a rebuilding path, and fans are divided over the performance of coach Ross Lyon, with one-third of those surveyed not happy with Lyon as coach.

Here are the full survey results, and a selection of Freo fans' 2017 moments to remember or forget.

What was the moment you'll remember?

Lachie Neale winning it out of the centre and booting it to David Mundy to kick a goal after the season against Richmond.
- Clancy Stanford, Darwin NT

Knocking off the reigning premiers in round 3; after two heavy defeats, the kids were brought in and shocked everyone.
- Josh Rock, Perth WA

In a season that was not primarily about wins, seeing Harley Bennell in purple was a standout.
- Hamish Ioppolo, Perth WA

Round 16 – Freo beat North, Ryan Nyhuis scored four goals on debut (including his first from his first kick). Brilliant!
- Kym Muller, Darwin NT

What was the moment you'd rather forget?

The two disgraceful performances against Richmond and Sydney. The worst one was against Richmond as it was our last game at Subi.
- Steve Nicholls, Northarn

68 points a game – please find a forward.
- Tim Fry, Bunbury WA

Walters missing a goal on the final kick against Geelong in Geelong. The team had played so well in the circumstances, they deserved to win.
- Anthony Clarke, Coogee WA

Mid-strength beer prices.
- Rhett Della, Coogee WA
