GEELONG expects Patrick Dangerfield to be available for next Sunday's clash against North Melbourne at Marvel Stadium, despite the superstar midfielder being hobbled by a knee injury throughout the match against Essendon.

The Cats, though, will monitor forward Esava Ratugolea after he was taken to hospital as a precaution for a head knock he received in the third quarter of his side's 32-point win over Essendon at the MCG on Sunday.

In good news, both Joel Selwood and Zach Tuohy – who both missed the game with soreness – are likely to play against the Kangaroos, according to coach Chris Scott.

Dangerfield tweaked his left knee in the second quarter of Sunday's game, while he also dealt with a minor ankle complaint after a tackle from Bomber Zach Merrett in the opening term.

The superstar sought some treatment in the change rooms before returning but gathered just nine disposals in one of his quietest games for years.

"Our information is that he'll be available next week. We're just not in the business of putting guys out there to risk further damage or to risk their chances of playing next week," Scott said.

"The fact that he was out there is a really good sign for everyone."

Ratugolea got a knee in the back of the head in a ruck contest with opponent Joe Daniher in the third term and did not return to the field after appearing wobbly on his feet.

"He got a knee in the back of the head so he was ruled out with concussion," Scott said.

"My understanding is he was taken to hospital as a precaution for further damage."

Scott said he would be shocked if Selwood and Tuohy did not get up for the match against the Roos in seven days.

"I'd be very, very surprised if both of them aren't available," Scott said.

"Zach Tuohy in particular was touch and go and could have played, probably, but the downside for us if he got injured was too great.

"Joel's just been sore for a little while. It would have been an interesting discussion for us if he declared himself fit and did everything we asked of him at the Captain's run (on Saturday). I suspect we still wouldn't have played him.

"That leaves us in pretty good shape for next week."

If Ratugolea is ruled out with concussion, Scott said Darcy Fort, Ryan Abbott and Zac Smith would be in contention to come into the side.

Wylie Buzza would have been, but Scott revealed he is dealing with a minor shoulder complaint. Lachie Henderson, who returned from a foot problem in the VFL, could also come into contention for that forward spot, according to Scott.

Scott also said Charlie Constable, who gathered 21 disposals against West Coast last weekend, was extremely unlucky to lose his place in the side.

"Charlie hasn't done much wrong and he's disappointed and we actually want him to be disappointed.

"Charlie will be a really good player for us in the long-term, we're confident about that. But it didn't quite go his way this week."
