FORMER Geelong star Steve Johnson will make his first appearance for new side Greater Western Sydney in Friday night's NAB Challenge clash with the Sydney Swans.

The three-time premiership forward and Norm Smith medallist was let go by the Cats last year before signing with the Giants, and he will feature in his first pre-season game this week.

The Giants have named a strong line-up for the Drummoyne Oval game, with ruckman Shane Mumford, forward Jeremy Cameron and midfield guns Dylan Shiel and Ryan Griffen all selected.

First-year midfielder Matthew Kennedy has again been picked in the 29-man squad as he edges closer to an early-season debut, but fellow academy product Jacob Hopper hasn't been named.

The Swans also head into the game with an experienced side, with co-captain Kieren Jack coming into the side having missed the opening round.

Lance Franklin, Josh Kennedy and Luke Parker are among the Swans stars set to continue their pre-season build-up after impressive efforts in the first week of the NAB Challenge.

Co-captain Kieren Jack is also in for first game for 2016.

Tough half-back Zak Jones, who was the club's first pick at the 2013 NAB AFL Draft, has also been selected.
