ESSENDON vice-captain Andrew Welsh and 2006 Norm Smith Medallist Andrew Embley have been given four-match penalties by the match review panel, while Bomber big man David Hille's rough conduct report has been withdrawn.

Welsh, who has been charged with misconduct for kneeing Hawthorn's Xavier Ellis, can accept a three-match ban with an early plea.

Embley, who has been charged with bumping or making forceful contact from front-on against Fremantle's Rhys Palmer, can accept a two-match ban with an early plea.

Hille was booked for engaging in rough conduct against Hawthorn premiership player Clinton Young. The panel said Hille turned his body to protect himself when it was apparent Young would get to the ball first.

The match review panel said Hille slowed down to minimise the contact and reduce the impact and that the force did not constitute a reportable offence.

First-year Lion and former Saint Matt Maguire has been charged for engaging in rough conduct against Sydney Swan Jude Bolton.

The incident drew 225 points and a two-match sanction, but with an early plea he can accept a one-match penalty, subject to confirmation he had a clean record in the VFL last year.

Bolton was himself charged with bumping or making forceful contact from front-on against Lion Joel Patfull. Bolton faces a one-match penalty, but with an early plea can accept a reprimand and 93.75 demerit points to his future record.

Melbourne captain James McDonald can accept a reprimand and 70.31 points towards his future record with an early plea, after his striking offence against Andrew Swallow.

West Coast midfielder Matt Priddis has been charged with making negligent contact with umpire Luke Farmer. It has drawn a $1200 sanction, but with an early plea reduces the penalty by 25 per cent to $900.

Fremantle's Hayden Ballantyne and West Coast's Adam Selwood have been charged for wrestling each other. The pair has been given a $1200 penalty, but an early plea will reduce it to $900 each.
