Overview of role

The AFL seeks a suitably qualified and skilled consultant to manage AFL Umpire Training Services.  This consultancy role will be responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring the National Umpire Fitness Program for the AFL Umpiring Department.

The consultant will have accountability for:
  • Ensuring an optimum fitness level is attained to enable all umpires to perform at their highest standard
  • Reporting to the AFL Umpiring Department on the individual and group fitness levels of AFL umpires
  • Overseeing and managing all contracted AFL Umpiring Department fitness staff

Key Accountabilities/Outcomes

  • Design, Implement and monitor appropriate and specific fitness programs for AFL Field Umpires nationally (group and individual)
  • Assist Coaching staff in planning pre-season camp program
  • Establish, organize and coordinate the National Fitness testing program
  • Advise on all aspects relating to physical preparation of umpires
  • Liaise regularly with the coaching staff on relevant issues pertaining to the physical preparation of umpires
  • Management of all AFLUD Fitness Staff
  • Oversee goal and boundary umpire fitness programs
  • Liaise regularly with all interstate fitness advisors in respect to the physical condition and training of AFL umpires located outside of Victoria.
  • Prepare all relevant fitness testing reports
  • Attend all AFL Umpire training sessions, camps and when necessary AFL games
