Vic Country U18 coach Robert Hyde says: Sam Wright is a very interesting player. I went to look at him a few times about playing state football and he was a little bit inconsistent. I saw him play some very good quarters and then go missing for a while, but he started to play for the Murray Bushrangers from the half-back area. He plays tall and he’s good below his knees – he actually played very well in the grand final, so he developed well as the year went on. He was in the mix for Vic Country but never got a game.
The thing with these country guys is they often only train once a week, so when the clubs have them for six or seven days a week they certainly come on in leaps and bounds.
