ADELAIDE defender Daniel Talia is set to have surgery on his right knee, delaying his pre-season program until after Christmas.

The Crows are unsure of a timeline for Talia, with more information to come through after the surgery is done in the coming weeks.

Crows high performance manager Matt Hass said the expectation is that Talia would be ready to resume training in the new year.

"He's aggravated an old injury in an innocuous incident at home," Hass said.

"The procedure will interrupt Daniel's preseason and the club will provide an update on the timeframes around his rehabilitation once the surgery has been completed."

The dual All Australian missed four games in 2018 with a leg injury causing him the most concern, while he also had reconstructive surgery on his left thumb at the end of the season.
