All the teams for Round 20 of the Smithy’s VFL.

The most talked about prospect in this year’s draft pool will showcase his talent on the State League stage again when Harley Reid lines up for Essendon in its Smithy’s VFL clash with Southport at Fankhauser Reserve on Saturday.

Reid, 18, played two VFL matches for Carlton earlier this season, averaging 17 disposals, 5.5 marks and 6.0 tackles.

He will don the sash for the Bombers’ trip to Queensland, with his Coates Talent League club Bendigo Pioneers aligned to both Carlton and Essendon, allowing him to play for the Bombers this week.

Reid comes into an Essendon team that suffered a horror 82-point loss to Sydney last week.

Will Setterfield returns from injury and VFL listers Bruno Laguda, Jacob Brown, Will Madden, Jake Moorhead and Maclyn Hallows have all been recalled.

Elijah Tsatas has finally earned his AFL opportunity, with Sam Weideman to be a carryover emergency and Massimo D’Ambrosio (knee) and James Stewart also out.

Southport, which needs to keep winning to have any chance of making the finals, has backed the 23 players who edged out Frankston last week.

Mason Cox has been named in Collingwood’s VFL team for its huge challenge against high-flying Werribee at Avalon Airport Oval on Sunday, with Will Hoskin-Elliott also dropped from the AFL team after being the substitute last week.

The Magpies lose the promoted Ash Johnson and injured Josh Carmichael, with Rye Penny returning to Calder Cannons.

Williamstown champion Marty Hore and captain Cam Polson will return from injury for the Seagulls’ crucial home game against Richmond on Saturday, with Michael Ktona also earning a recall.

The Tigers will be boosted by the returns of Ben Miller, Rhyan Mansell and Sam Banks, with Noah Cumberland’s recent form earning him a promotion and Maurice Rioli being injured.

North Melbourne looks little more like the team that won six games in a row until last month, with captain Jack Watkins and the experienced Dan Howe, Aidan Bonar and Lachie Young back in alongside Flynn Perez and Tom O’Sullivan.

Club great Ben Cunnington returns to the top level, with Charlie Lazzaro also called up and Cooper Harvey getting a rest.

The Kangaroos take on in-form Footscray, which will chase an eighth win in a row with Lachie McNeil, Buku Khamis and Oskar Baker in and Rory Lobb (AFL) and Riley Garcia among the three players going out.

Northern Bullants have two more debutants for their trip to Wilson Storage Trevor Barker Beach Oval to meet Sandringham on Sunday, with talls Arthur Armstong (Pascoe Vale) and Hudson Barrett (Parkside) breaking through and Jackson Barling, Dylan Clarke, Peter Gentile and Ben Holian rounding out six inclusions.

The Zebras regain Jack Billings and Jack Bytel and recalled Tyson Milne, with Parkdale Vultures youngster Tarkyn O’Leary, 18, winning a debut after good form for Victoria Metro and Sandringham Dragons, but intercept defender Tom Highmore has been rested.

Sydney Swans Academy prospect, Lachlan Cabor, will make his long-awaited VFL debut in the Sydney Derby against GWS Giants at Blacktown International Sports Park on Saturday.

Cabor, 17, originally from Shellharbour and now with Premier League club St George will play alongside fellow Academy players Tye Gander and Christian Webster, while Tom Hickey and Aaron Francis have been promoted to the AFL.

The Giants have four AFL-listed players coming in to boost their hopes of staying in the finals race, with No.1 draft pick Aaron Cadman, in-form half-back Josh Fahey, ruckman Matt Flynn and defender Ryan Angwin all set to make life tougher for Sydney.

All matches in the 2023 Smithy’s VFL season are live streamed free via the AFL website and AFL Live Official App.

Smithy’s VFL broadcast partner, the Seven Network, will show one weekly game live and free on the Seven Network in Victoria and on 7Plus nationally. This week’s game will be Werribee vs Collingwood.
