DESPITE a team decimated by injuries and suspensions, Friday night's marquee match against Collingwood is not Mission Impossible, Brisbane Lion Brent Staker says.

The Lions enter the match depleted of their primary talent, with Matthew Leuenberger (thumb) and Tom Rockliff (quad) joining suspended duo Jonathan Brown and Daniel Merrett on the sidelines.

Daniel Rich (shoulder) and Mitch Golby (foot) are also unavailable.

But Staker, who will play his third match after successive knee reconstructions prevented him from appearing for almost two years, says the Lions can put the adversity behind them.

He says they showed against Essendon two weeks ago what was possible.

"You just need good effort from the first bounce," Staker said.

"Missing those guys, clearly they're quality players, but the reserves have been in good form and they'll fill the void, and we should attack it the same way we attacked the Essendon game."

Second-year ruckman Billy Longer will come in for Leuenberger, while Aaron Cornelius appears likely to replace Brown in the forward line after training with the main squad on Thursday.

Justin Clarke will also return from a one-match suspension, although it seems the young defender will be spared matching up on Magpies hulk Travis Cloke.

Joel Patfull will get an opportunity to atone for his poor outing against Carlton's Jarrad Waite last week and get the first crack at Cloke, according to Staker.

"We definitely expect them (Collingwood) to come out all guns blazing," he said.

"They've come off an interesting game last week and it's been an interesting week for them, the past few days. I expect them from the very first minute to be flat out."
