PORT Adelaide draftee Hamish Hartlett has hit another hurdle in his comeback from a hamstring strain, reinjuring the muscle at training on Monday.

Hartlett was sent for scans on Wednesday and remains unlikely to be fit to take on Geelong at Skilled Stadium on Sunday.

The 18-year-old made his AFL debut against Hawthorn in round four and played the next three games before missing a week with back-related hamstring tightness.

The promising midfielder returned to the Power line-up in round eight and played another three games before twinging the same hamstring in the loss to Collingwood

Veteran forward Warren Tredrea said it was disappointing to add Hartlett's name to the injury list which already contains the likes of Shaun Burgoyne, Chad Cornes, Travis Boak, Daniel Motlop and Matt Thomas.

"I know three or four weeks ago when Hamish got injured … it's not very often a coach talks about a first-year player and says, 'We're looking forward to getting him back in'," Tredrea said on Wednesday.

"Hamish is a very good kick, a good decision maker and is someone who works very hard. He's someone we want to progress in our group as fast as we can for him to turn into a long-term player for us."

Tredrea is also nursing a minor injury concern.

The former skipper, who has an infected finger, spent much of Wednesday's session at Adelaide Oval improving his fitness.

"Once the competitive stuff started I got sent to pasture and to run laps. I've had better Wednesdays, but that's life."

Port Adelaide was the last team to topple the Cats at Skilled Stadium back in round 21, 2007.

Tredrea admitted the stirring win was a relic of the past, but said his side could take heart from Fremantle's effort against Geelong last week.

"A few years ago, we were able to win a game at Skilled Stadium just through sheer effort and that's what we're looking to this time around," Tredrea said.

"We're confident that over the last five or six years we match up pretty well against the Cats, but on any given day we need 100 per cent effort to give ourselves an opportunity to win.

"We're coming up against a great team and we're under no illusions that it's going to be hard, but we're going to have a go at it."
