Speaking at the AFL captains' day at Docklands, Goodwin said the Crows could push the two teams most consider the front-runners to battle out this year's premiership.
Most skippers believed Geelong and Hawthorn were the teams to beat this season but Goodwin has backed his young charges to again be in the mix.
"We've got a lot of young, good kids coming through," he told afl.com.au.
The Crows finished seventh last year but have a number of impressive youngsters on their list.
Some of those less-experienced players will feature in attack for Adelaide in 2009.
And Goodwin is confident the next generation of Crows can step up to the plate and regularly kick a winning score for Neil Craig's team.
"[Kicking goals] is a question that continually comes up but we feel that we've recruited really well in that area," Goodwin said.
"You look at Taylor Walker, Kurt Tippett, Trent Hentschel, Jason Porplyzia and a Brett Burton, when he comes back into that mix, and you're starting to have a fairly potent forward line.
"We feel like we've got some really good talent coming through, especially with Taylor and Kurt, so we'll continue to develop those guys and throw James Sellar into that.
"We feel that it might take a bit of time but as the year goes on we'll get better."
Goodwin was used up forward with good effect last season, showing his attacking prowess with seven goals in round two against the Eagles.
However the 32-year-old says with greater options around and inside the 50m arc, he is likely to take on a different role.
"I'll play a fair bit in the backline but also be used in midfield and up forward," he said.
"The great thing about where our club is at the moment is we've got a lot of versatility with where our players can play.
"That enables us to throw the team around a bit but, for myself, the majority of the time I'll probably be in the backline somewhere."
Dream Team watch – Adelaide's Simon Goodwin is rated a $395,300 midfielder/forward in Toyota AFL Dream Team 2009.
