Brittain is the latest addition to the Lions' Football Department and brings with him a wealth of coaching experience.
He joins Adrian Fletcher and Justin Leppitsch as Assistant Coaches to Senior Coach Michael Voss at the Lions for Season 2009.
A born and bred Queenslander, Brittain enjoyed great success as Head Coach of local Brisbane side Windsor-Zillmere, before accepting an Assistant Coach position under Robert Walls with the then Brisbane Bears in 1994.
He headed to Carlton as an Assistant Coach in 1996 where he quickly gained a reputation for himself as a brilliant tactician and communicator.
He was held in such high regard that when David Parkin quit as the Blues' Senior Coach at the end of 2000, he anointed Brittain as his successor.
Brittain took over the reigns as Carlton Senior Coach in 2001 and led the Blues to the AFL Semi Finals in his first season at the helm. However, he was replaced by Denis Pagan a year later after a disappointing finish to the 2002 season.
He moved to Richmond as an Assistant Coach in 2003 where he spent two seasons under Danny Frawley before returning to Queensland at the end of 2004 to coach the Zillmere Eagles.
Brittain's contribution to coaching in Queensland was recognised by the AFLQ in 2003 when he was placed on a shortlist of nominations for its Coach of the Century.
Brittain will commence coaching with the Lions this week.
