BRISBANE has offered a long-term deal to Gold Coast talent Callum Ah Chee as part of the Lions' strategy to splash the cash in the upcoming Trade Period.

Ah Chee, 21, officially requested a move up the highway last week to fulfill Chris Fagan's plan to add more pace at the Gabba next season.

With Luke Hodge formally retiring following the Saturday night semi-final loss to Greater Western Sydney, the Lions will look to add to their half-back stocks this off-season.

They confirmed over the weekend they have money to spend, with greater midfield depth also a requirement.

Ah Chee, who added one match to his tally of 45 this season, played both half-back and half-forward in his four-year stint at the Suns, where he was recruited via pick eight in 2015.

The Lions have shown interest in Adelaide midfielder Hugh Greenwood who also has attention from the Suns, while the question was recently asked of contracted Crows half-back Brodie Smith.

Both Greenwood and Smith have a close relationship with Lions football boss David Noble, who has spent the past three seasons in Brisbane.

Adelaide's Hugh Greenwood is seeking the security of a longer-term deal.

The need for another ready-made ruckman was shown in a push for Hawthorn big man Jon Ceglar before he recommitted at the Hawks for three seasons.

The Lions are currently armed with picks 17, 19, 32 and 42, with the latter two in the mix to used on Ah Chee once the Trade Period opens on October 7.

"We're looking for a couple (of players)," Brisbane chief executive Greg Swann told AFL Nation on Saturday.

"We won't do a lot, we won't be probably as big a player as we were last year (recruiting Lachie Neale, Marcus Adams, Lincoln McCarthy and Jarryd Lyons).

"Yeah, we have (got cap space). We just keep wanting to put good players in the system, we need probably a bit more depth, you always need midfielders.

"We'll see what's out there.

"The advantage for us at the moment is we've actually got some people that are interested in coming, so that's something that's changed massively over the last three or four years."

Lions football manager David Noble has strong relationships with several Crows from his time at the club.

The Lions' list management team will meet on Tuesday night in Brisbane with several decisions to make on its current list before player exit meetings on Wednesday and Thursday.

Allen Christensen and Nick Robertson – both part of the semi-final side– remain without contract offers for next season.

Speedy wingman Lewis Taylor and utility Tom Cutler are canvassing their options at rival clubs.

The pair were part of the Lions' NEAFL premiership side on Sunday with fellow uncontracted players Josh Walker, Ben Keays, Corey Lyons, Ryan Bastinac, Mitch Hinge, Sam Skinner and Ryan Lester.

The Lions will attempt to retain mature-age defender Matt Eagles, voted best on ground in the NEAFL flag, with special consideration from the AFL.
