ANOTHER OF Mick Malthouse's loyal lieutenants has left Carlton, with coaching director Robert Wiley informing the club he is returning to Perth to take a senior position with a WAFL club.

Carlton announced Wiley's upcoming departure on Monday afternoon, following last week's departures of fellow Malthouse stalwarts Dean Laidley (assistant coach) and David Buttifant (fitness boss).

Carlton's media release did not detail which club Wiley would be joining, but AFL.com.au understands he will return to work in the WAFL and not the AFL.

Wiley joined Carlton in late 2012 after Malthouse's appointment as Blues coach. He had previously worked with the three-time premiership coach during the 1990s at West Coast.

Wiley is an eight-time best and fairest winner at Perth Football Club and a Legend in the club's hall of fame.

Carlton football boss Andrew McKay praised Wiley's contribution to the Blues.

"Rob epitomises the definition of a good football person and his contribution to Carlton has been first-class across the club. We wish him well on his return home to Western Australia," McKay said.

Wiley said he had enjoyed his three seasons at Carlton.

"Although we didn’t achieve the on-field success we all yearn for, I know the foundations are strong and they will continue to build towards success," Wiley said.

Malthouse was sacked after the Blues' round eight loss to Geelong this year, with his recently appointed replacement Brendon Bolton now expected to surround himself with a new-look coaching and fitness team.

Carlton said on Monday that coaching and high-performance appointments would be announced "in due course".

Meanwhile, Carlton has signed US college basketballer Matt Korcheck as a category B rookie on a two-year contract.

Korcheck, 208cm and 105kg, played basketball at division one college Arizona.

"Matt is a beast of an athlete and showed some real promise when he made the journey over in August, so we're delighted to have the chance to explore that potential further," Carlton list manager Stephen Silvagni said.

The American is set to arrive at Ikon Park in November to start pre-season training.
