THE SYDNEY Swans are in deep mourning after the passing of Luella McVeigh, the baby daughter of co-captain Jarrad and his wife Clementine.
McVeigh won't face Geelong this Saturday after the four-week old tragically passed away in Westmead Hospital on Wednesday afternoon from the serious heart complications she was born with last month.
McVeigh and Clementine were by her side when she died.
The Swans will wear black armbands for Luella, who was born on July 25, when they take on the Cats at Skilled Stadium.
"We are all so very sad for Jarrad and Clementine and their families," coach John Longmire said in a statement released by the Swans on Wednesday evening.
"Our hearts go out to them in deepest sympathy. We will be doing everything we can to support them through this terribly difficult time."
Sydney Swans chief executive Andrew Ireland said it was a sad time for everyone at the club.
"Words can’t express how deeply saddened and sorry we are at the passing of Luella," Ireland said.
Longmire will make a statement on behalf of the club on Thursday morning.
