Twenty-five NAB League Girls players are among 45 invitees to the 2019 NAB AFL Women’s Draft Combine to be held in Melbourne in early October.
Fifteen players from the Vic Metro state academy regions have been invited to the Combine as well as 10 players from the Vic Country regions.
Six members of the recently-announced 2019 NAB AFL Women’s Under-18 All Australian Team from NAB League clubs are invitees to the Combine: Millie Brown (Murray Bushrangers), Laura McClelland (Eastern Ranges), All Australian captain and Vic Country MVP Lucy McEvoy (Geelong Falcons), Sophie Molan (GWV Rebels), Gabrielle Newton (Northern Knights) and MVP of both Vic Metro and the Championships Georgia Patrikios (Calder Cannons).
Brown – the daughter of former Geelong AFL player Paul Brown – is one of two NAB League Girls players who are father-daughter-eligible at the AFLW Draft to have been invited, along with the Western Jets’ Isabella Grant – daughter of Australian Football Hall of Fame member and former Western Bulldogs AFL captain Chris Grant.
AFLW Clubs shortlist their preferred players to attend the Combine, with each of the 45 players invited receiving at least one AFLW Club nomination.
The Combine will test players’ skills, agility and strength through a series of tests including the 20-metre sprint and vertical jump, along with goalkicking and marking tests.
AFL Head of Women's Football Nicole Livingstone said the Combine is the final chance players have to showcase their skills before the 2019 NAB AFL Women’s Draft.
“The Draft Combine will see the country's best young female talent showcase their skills on and off the field in front of AFLW club recruiters,” Ms Livingstone said.
“Following a successful 2019 NAB AFLW Under-18 Championships, Club recruiters will get their final chance to assess on-field skills as well as conducting one-on-one interviews with players throughout the week.”
The Combine will move from Marvel Stadium for the first time in 2019, with the new venue to be confirmed by the end of August.
