In 2007, more than 14,000 children were cared for as inpatients at Mater Children’s Hospital and 50,000 were treated as outpatients. Over 40,000 received care from the Mater Children’s Hospital emergency department. In addition to this the Mater Mothers’ Hospital cares for over 1,200 premature and seriously ill babies each year.
Children and babies from regional and rural Queensland – around 8,500 each year – are also treated at the Mater for life-threatening and debilitating conditions including renal failure, cardiac problems, respiratory conditions and serious injuries.
