DEAN COX

Are you sick and tired of all the surname-related jokes yet?
Hahaha! Certainly from when they first started they were very humorous and now people are certainly coming up with different random ones that I have a good chuckle at. I quite enjoy it. People are always out there to have a laugh and that’s what it makes me do.

Leanne
Love your work big guy, have you been on Facebook lately? I've dedicated a group just for you, I like to call it, "The Coxy mutual appreciation society" check it out one day!!
Anyway, my question is, footy is such a big part of your life, as a supporter, I find that we spend a lot of time disecting the games, experiences, passions etc. What is your one great passion, outside of football? Is it fishing, music, movies? And also, whilst I'm asking, do you get nervous before a game? I sometimes get butterflies and I'm just watching the game!! Cheers. Leanne.
Yeh I think you always get nervous before a game. I suppose with the expectation that you want to perform well and play your role for the footy side and to win the game. It gets a little easier the more you play but I think the day you don’t get nervous is the day you should probably finish it up because that means you’re not really concerned about your performance or how your side goes. Im still a little bit of a nervous wreck before a game.
The passions outside of footy would be spending time with the family, most of the boys around the club love having a hit of golf and I have a couple of business interests keeping me busy.

BEAU WATERS
Do you think with your injury once you are fully recovered do you think you will still go hard at the ball? Which looks like no regards for your own safety don’t get me wrong gutsy stuff mate I love it
Yeh definitely. I think this is a game that you can’t go out and not play 100%, so if in my mind I can’t perform at that level then I probably won’t be up to playing AFL footy. I do have the utmost confidence that I will be back and putting myself in reckless positions.
Karl
Are you disappointed that the AFL is continuously imposing more stringent penalties on tough plays and hits that would once have been deemed as fair? Also, Chesney Botha seemed like a tough guy who enjoys the physical side of things, do you think having a number of heavy hitters will bring any big advantage?
I think that the fans do love the rough side of the game and the pain inflicted on different players but at the same time, the AFL has a responsibility to the players. With the current speed of the game, there are a lot of opportunities for pretty severe injuries like the one I received. Even though it wasn’t from going too hard at the footy and more an unfortunate circumstance, it’s just one of those things the AFL has to be diligent on otherwise the game could come under pretty intense scrutiny.

Starting as a country player, moving to the WAFL, drafted to Carlton then being involved in one of the biggest trade deals of the WCE, you have now been elevated to the leadership group. From all of your experience and demonstrated skills within the club, you are obviously recognised as a quality player and leader, but carry a low profile compared to other club leaders. Can you give us an insight how you view your new role and responsibilities both on & off the field, and how, as a 22 year old, you intend to guide and inspire players & members, also both on and off the field.
The new role of being a leader was a bit scary at first as I didn’t really know what to expect. Then when you think of a leader, you think of someone who’s out there giving orders and doing this and doing that. I’m not really one to be out there and be outspoken, I just try and play my best footy. I suppose when speaking to Woosh and a few other players, they said that I had been voted in for doing what I’ve been doing so just to continue doing it. So I’m not really going to change that much, I’m just going to keep working like I have been and hopefully that can guide and inspire the younger players. Being a 22-year-old, I’m probably a little closer to the younger players and I suppose they might find it a little easier to talk to me and that’s one thing I suppose that’s one thing I’ll work on is talking to them and getting better communication between them.
Lori Clothier
After becoming the newest member of the Leadership group do you believe you have the potential to take up captaincy if it is asked of you? And do you aspire to become captain? Personally i think you would do great where it was just in the Leadership team or as something higher. Good Luck for your future career Josh.
Look I’ve never really thought about being a captain or doing anything like that. I just try and concentrate on playing good footy and wanting to help the team. At the moment, Glassy is a great captain and I’m sure he is going to be captain for the next few years. I’m just going to keep doing my thing for the team.
Garry Weightman
Josh Kennedy Have you upsized your wardrobe yet?Had the pleasure of meeting you at Eagles Vic.function 2008 and the jacket you were wearing appeared way too small:-)welcome to the WCE and all the best in 2010.
Yes well usually the outfits I get from the club are a bit too small, I don’t think they know my size yet but hopefully this year will be different and I can fit right into it.

DANIEL KERR
Anthony Sapienza
Do you believe that there was too much presure put on you in 2008 - 2009 as the main midfielder. As everyone keeps reminding us that cousins and judd have moved on, but the eagles midfield was deeper then just those two. Names like braun, fletcher, stenglein come to mind and were all at courier best. All these players and you made the eagles midfield what it was not just judd and cousins. I hope that you have a great season in 2010, and now that the younger players are starting to show great skill. (Masten, Brown, Ebert, S. Selwood, Swift and Naitanui) I BELIEVE!! that you will be there at our next premiership!!!! good luck to the club in 2010.
I don’t think so, I think a lot of the younger guys will take some of the pressure off me this year. They’ve now got about 20 or 30 games under their belt and I think it’s their turn to step up and start really dominating some games of football.
Craig Hayden
What foods would you have from Wed through to Sat morning if game day is on Sat here in Perth and how frequebt would you eat. Also the water intake how many litres per day. What days do you get to have a beer? Thanks.
My water intake is huge. I’d be drinking anything between four or five litres of water a day. If I’m playing Saturday, my diet will stay pretty similar to what it normally would but just more protein and carbs from about Thursday onwards. I do this by making sure I get a good rice or pasta dish in for dinner.
Alex Fischer
keeping hydrated pre and post game is obviously a key to a footballers performance, recovery and everyday life. i know sports drinks are are used by afl athletes, but have you ever thought of consuming "Ionized" or "Alkalized" water, to improve the bodys hydration absorption, ph balance and toxicity level as it woks as a detox. well worth a look to get that edge.
I’ve thought about it but been told that Powerade and those similar sports drinks are the way to go.
what was is it like playing for the west coast eagles ? Well i was a tyson stenglein supporter but he retired so your my favourite eagles player now . HOW old were you when you started afl ? when you were a kid wat afl team did you go for ? daniel kerr by the way it will be my 16th birthday soon ( January 28th ) and im celebrating with my twin brother anthony and all my family and friends. What was the best thing about playing for the west coast eagles?
I started playing football ever since I could remember really. I played soccer first until dad thought there wasn’t enough contact in the sport so he made me change. I was actually more keen on my soccer when I was a young kid. I have supported the Eagles ever since I can remember as well. I then played for my school team which was Aquinas and then came straight here to the club at 17 years of age.
Stuart Dudfield
Do you think you can stay on the field more than being off it this year? Do you see yourself as being better than Juddy or Cousins?
They’re two pretty good players so probably not better than either of them. I have put in the work this year during the eight weeks off so if my body doesn’t hold up this year I will be more disappointed than in previous years because I have done a lot of work over the months to make sure I can handle the rigors of AFL footy.
Terry Jenkins
each week you get tagged in week in week out and it fustrates you how players hold and niggle you,do u think next year you can totally block out tagging annoying players, play your natural game, not get fustrated and lead us to a premiership in 2010? And by the way you are the best player in the A.F.L as well. Good luck in 2010, all the best....
Obviously it has got me more frustrated in the last two years than most other players but a lot of that frustration has been because my body’s probably not working the way I want it to work and not so much the taggers niggling me. I do take it out on the taggers but it’s more frustration about the way I was feeling and how I was travelling. But this year, with the body feeling a little better, I’ve been training much more and will hopefully be able to shake the taggers off.
Prem
Cousins has gone, as has Judd, leaving you to take up the mantle as our premier onballer. How do you think you have performed in rising to the challenge and can you lead our new midfield group into our next era as Cousins did when you started out
Pretty badly I reckon. Since they’ve gone I’ve probably averaged 10 games a year and they have probably been the worst two years of my career. Hopefully I can prove to myself, well not just myself but also prove to some supporters that the club’s faith in me is justified.

WOOSHA
Eric Goh
Were you disappointed that your Ex-Eagle Team-mate Guy McKenna beat you to it in signing Brandon Matera? I know that I would be. Would love to see another Matera in the Eagles jumper. Anyway, Good Luck in 2010.
No. Brandon would have been going through the draft next year anyway and whether we would have got him or not is too hard to predict. I’m pleased for Brandon that he’s going to go and be taught by a former Eagle great player.
Glen Burton
If West Coast were unsuccessful in making it into the top 8 for the next 2 years and you were sacked from the top job. Who would you like to see take your place to lead the eagles in the right direction?
I’d like to see someone that’s currently working here that’s developed enough for the club to be confident enough to take over. The big challenge is that if we’re not achieving what I think we should be achieving at that time, then you probably need to change the game plan a fair bit. Therefore, you need to talk to current people working here or new people to say what is it that’s not working because I believe our squad will be talented enough to play good finals football soon.
Random
Given that Woosha would be Col. Potter and Tim is "Hot Lips" Houlihan who would round out the rest of the M*A*S*H cast. i.e. B.J, Hawkeye, Radar, Klinger etc
Nah I don’t really know enough about M*A*S*H to be able to put those into play
Ben Rostron
A simple question,do you think the Dockers will ever win a grand final,if so when is your prediction?
My only prediction will be that they will win a flag one day.
Trevor
Is there much change in the gameplan this season, the running game is quite effective when the skills are imaculate however this is not so with such a young group, as they run themselves into trouble a lot especially Rosa. The long kicking game is far more effective given the workrate is up. Also it is great to see some small forwards recruited finally to put pressure on the ball coming out, which has been lacking since Phil Matera. Like the look of the midfield and am wondering how the foward line will structure with Lynch Hansen and Kennedy all up there along with McKinnley who plays like a Tall even though he is a little undersized, Cant wait for the season to start and get back to finals footy.
There have been minor changes to the game plan. The key areas for us to improve are skills, which will come from experience with our younger players.
I possibly see all those big men working for us up forward. They are all in the mix to have a look up there but it’s unlikely we will have all three talls up there and if we do, one of them will probably be a ruckman.
John Caullay
Do you think that the eagels should have there own team in the wafl I really think it could benifit our squad for the players that miss or are up in coming thrue the ranks and are pushing for a game and what do you think it could benifit from if it were to be.
From an Eagles perspective, it would be the ideal situation, having all our players that aren’t selected to play in the AFL playing together in a competition. I believe that is the best structure for us, for our development and for the Eagles as a club. However, finding a competition to play in is not that easy. The WAFL is the obvious one but there are a lot of issues to make sure that it doesn’t affect the strength of that competition and its ability to continue growing.
Ben Huynh
Do we have any new small forward pocket players yet?? I want to see more action like when the team still had Phillip 'lil Phil' Matera... always get the ball out of the scrum and kick a goal!!
Well we have recruited specifically three guys that play as smaller forwards. So Gerrick Weedon can certainly play as a forward, Lewis Broome and Ryan Neates have been recruited as guys who have spent a bit of time as small forwards. They’re development players so they’ve just come through this draft so not in the immediate future, in the next 12 months, but down the track we think we can develop them to be regulars.
Chris Ryan-Peek
with the number of midfielders that we have in our squad, where are they all going to Play? Will Kerr go forward, is there room for Dalziell on the wing or will it be that Adam Selwood is released from Tagging duties? The complexities of having some many midfielders must make coaching a difficult task.
Yeh it’s a very good question, we think we have a lot of talented players up and coming. We have our senior group in Adam Selwood, Kerr, Priddis and the group coming through underneath with Ebert, Masten, Shuey, Scott Selwood, Swift and then Dalziell , Houlihan, Rosa and Embley or capable wingmen. It’s important to have depth in those positions and then the key in any of the great sides, is that there will be some very talented guys missing out because the best 22 is an awesome 22. The challenge is for those guys to show that they’re above the others because it will be good competition for spots.

MATT SPANGHER
Troy Robinson
is it true that you decided to stay at the Mighty Eagles because you had a fear that Nic Natanui is about to dominate the AFL for the next ten years, and you didn't want to be on an opposing side to him? Thanks Troy (We like Spangher!!)
Yes there is fear that the big man will just take over and dominate the AFL but on the same side, he says he has the best hair in the competition and I feel I have to monitor it closely and make sure I have him covered there. That's part and parcel of why I stayed, in conjunction with many other reasons.

MARK LECRAS
Teresa
How are you finding AFL level footy compared to WAFL level. I am a huge West Perth fan and when you played some WAFL games I always thought you would be fantastic at the AFL level. My niece Mischa who is 3 years old things you are fantastic and always looks out for the Number 2 when the Eagles are playing, so please don't get injured as she will be really upset and she is always asking us to come down to training so she can have a photo with yourself, (hopefully we can in 2010). Good Luck in the 2010 season to you and all the team. GO EAGLES
Probably the main difference would be intensity and the amount of time you have to dispose of the footy. There's a lot more body pressure around you in the AFL, it's a pretty big step up.
Rickie Zaccaria
What are your plans, for the future, in Football. Presently, you play in the forward line; but, where would you eventually like to be positioned, on the ground; and, would you like to stay in that position, or move back to the forward line, if asked to do so by the coaches?
I'd like to be able to play in the midfield and also forward so I mix up my time in both. I wouldnt want to cut either out of my game, I'd like to be able to do both.
Emma
Do you have any pre-game rituals? like listening to your ipod or something? Whats behind the amazing goal kicker!!??
No I try and keep it real inconsistent so that if something was to happen it wouldn't ruin my game preparation. Whatever happens, happens, I just like to chill out.

BRAD EBERT
Brad
TO BRAD EBERT I,AM A SOUTH AUSSIE WEST COAST SUPPORTER AND BEING 40YRS OLD I HAVE WATCH THE EBERT NAME BECOME A LEGEND OVER HERE WHERE YOU IN ANYWAY SORT OF RELEVED THAT THE CROWS OR THE POWER DID NOT PICK YOU UP AS THE PRESURE TO PLAY AFL IS BIG ENOUGH WITHOUT HAVING THE MEDIA PRESURE OF THE EBERT NAME TO CARRY WITH YOU IN SA IF ONE OF THEM TWO TEAMS PICKED YOU UP AS IT HAS BEEN ON BRETT EBERT
I guess I was just happy being drafted in the end. Going to Port of the Crows would have been fine, I don't really think there would have been too much pressure. Luckily, I got drafted to West Coast and it has been a great move and I love it over here in Perth.
NIC NAITANUI
Johno
hey naitanui this is more private question i know your feet are size 16 but ive got size 15 feet and im 14 where you feet that big when you were 14?
No they weren’t. I didn’t really start growing until I was about 16 so I wasn’t really too tall or have big feet at all.
Jade Hinder
Have you asked Priddis what shampoo & conditioner he uses?
When will you be losing the locks?
I have a locker near Pridda so I always smell his stuff. He uses that Garniere stuff, I don’t know what it is but I had a little try of it. I don’t know when the hair’s going, it will be soon though.
Jonathan Plummer 2
Now that were heading towards christmas time do you have a easier training going into christmas break or do they give you a hard training session just for christmas?
I think before we went on the Christmas break it got harder and then the first week back was all testing, so yeh I guess it got stepped up a bit.

BRADD DALZEILL
You must be excited about joining the West Coast Eagles. You mentioned in your bio on the team website that "It will also be great to play in front of my family and friends more often than I could in Brisbane."
Tell me about the role your family and friends play in your general career and match day preparations? Particularly as it applies to a player joining a new club.
Thanks for your time.
Well first off I still live at home so my mum does all my cooking and cleaning for me, so she prepares me pretty well before a game. They’ve always supported me pretty well I guess, they always come down and watch me play footy wherever I play. My mum and dad are pretty busy during the week and the only time they really get off is to watch me play on the weekend so I guess it’s pretty important that they’re coming to watch me.

DARREN GLASS
How have you found the rushed behind rule in the past season? Do you think it is good for the game, and has your disposal improved as a result?
I have found that the rush behind rule hasn't affected me a lot. There's only one or two instances in a game where the player is encouraged to keep the ball in. I think it is good for the game, I think teams were exploiting that grey area by walking back across the line so i think the rule is a good one.
Daniel Cavanagh
Love you Glassy, i love all defenders they are the most unappreciated players in footy, my question is do you think you fly under the radar a bit. I find that not many people talk about you, not only between eagles supporters but the rest of the AFL, which sucks, you lead from the front and you put your body on the line at every contest, you truly epitomise the true eagles spirit. Good luck next year and go eagles
Not really no. I don't really play football looking for recognition or accolades from fans or supporters or anyone else in football, I do it because I enjoy it. I'm not really looking for that sort of stuff so I don't find that I'm under appreciated at all. The major source of feedback I'll look for will be from the coaching staff, so as long as I'm appreciated there, I'm happy.

SHANNON HURN
Murray Lake
How do you feel the team would go with you and Lynch on the wings delivering long powerful kicks into the forward line, or just kicking goals from 70m out?
Well I reckon that would be good having me and Lynchy there except I think he would probably kick them about 75m whereas I would only be able to make about 70m.

ANDREW EMBLEY
Ben Huynh
I always see you play in the back line or the half-foward position but why doesn't Woosha put you into the midfield much? Your my favourite player because its so awesome how you run around mad when u kick a goal and when you get the ball in the back line and run to the forward 50m line and thump the ball! I hope you have more team-mates around you on the field in the back line could shepperd and let you run mad to kick a goal!
Well this year, to be honest with you, I’m actually doing a lot of my training through the midfield and playing that half-forward role. Hopefully I will get more of a run through the midfield this year and be able to help out the likes of Priddis, Kerr and Selwood.

MATT PRIDDIS

What shampoo/conditioner do you use and what is your hair-washing routine? I want to achieve your luscious locks. Merry Christmas to you and your lovely wife.
Hahaha! That sounds like a friend asking that question. Very casual actually, I wash the hair once a week and just leave a ‘leave in’ conditioner. I use that each week instead of a wax, I think it’s called Elvive.

ADAM SELWOOD
Rob Steven
When all your family gets together have you ever discussed what it would be like to play in the same team (West Coast Eagles).
Yeh it has been discussed but obviously, the way football works it would be very hard to accomplish. I have played a lot of footy with Troy but it would been nice playing with Joel somewhere down the track. We’ll have to try and get him over.
Meaghan
Is it hard to play with one of your younger brothers in the same club as you?
Nah not at all, I’m extremely happy and excited to hopefully play another five years with Scotty and to achieve a premiership with him. I’ve won one before but the ultimate would be to share it with a brother.

JARRAD OAKLEY NICHOLLS
Aaron
Whilst you were at richmond, it was obvious that you didnt get to show the tigers your true potential with all the injuries and stuff that sidelined you. Do you think that your best footy is ahead of you at the eagles and do you rekon that you will have an impact on the team in 2010 and in years to come??.
Yeh injury was one of the main reasons why I didn’t play my best footy over there. I had groin and shin problems as well as a broken arm and two broken collarbones, so I had a fair bit of trouble while over there for the four years but hoping to turn it around this season.
For sure I think my best footy is ahead of me, now that I’m more mature and I’ve been in the system for a few years. Coming to the West Coast Eagles, who are more professional, is really going to help my footy as well as me as a person. To be back playing back home around friends and family will make me play my best footy.
