CLAYE Beams will miss up to eight weeks after scans on Monday morning confirmed the Brisbane Lions midfielder has a fractured foot.
The injury, to the fifth metatarsal of his left foot, was sustained on Saturday during the club's practice match against the Sydney Swans.
Beams will have surgery on Monday night.
It's another horrible setback for the 22-year-old, who spent most of last season in rehabilitation for a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.
General manager of football operations Dean Warren said he was confident Beams would return strongly.
"We are certain that the resilience and absolute professionalism that Claye has displayed throughout his previous rehabilitation will get him through this tough period," Warren said.
Saturday's match against the Swans was Beams' second after recovering from a full knee reconstruction early in the 2013 season.
