Although Holmes did not nominate any AFL players, he said the club had already earmarked quality talent when the 18th club joins the competition.
"I think it's fair to say the recruiting group would be looking at established players now and understanding who is coming out of contract in time for 2012," he told afl.com.au.
"They'd be talking to player managers about what our proposition is to attract those players, so we're easily underway there. But you won't see anything happening until October 2011 on that front.
"Mind you, they'll be plenty of work done in the next 18 months to make sure we're well positioned to attract some quality players that are experienced and have well-developed bodies to support our young kids and give them good leadership."
With the acquisition of vastly experienced duo Graeme Allan (head of football) and Neville Stibbard (head of recruiting), the club has also implemented a network of talent spotters.
"We have a network of people who sit underneath Neville, who are looking at TAC Cup games and looking over in WA and South Australia. We've got a national network that's been established," Holmes said.
"Graeme Allan is probably as good as you'll get in Australia in terms of being able to compile a list and develop that list.
"The exciting thing for us is that we have concessions and if we can attract the right people to the club and retain them, we have the chance to bring a really high quality group of young kids through together over the next five years, which can underwrite the future success of the club."
Holmes also believes Geelong dual premiership captain Tom Harley and GWS project consultant will play a critical role in shaping the club.
"Tom Harley is really important in that context, because he will play a role in the leadership and cultural development of the playing group," he said.
"At the moment, he's combining marketing, commercial, management and football. Ultimately, I think his aspirations are to be a CEO of a football club or an organisation - he's very interested in the business side of football.
"But at the same time, you wouldn't want to miss on the opportunity to use his football expertise on the development of the young players. He'll play a role for us in that area."
