A SLIGHT back niggle has kept Gold Coast youngster Jack Martin out of Sunday's NAB Challenge match against the Brisbane Lions at Burpengary's Moreton Bay Sports Complex.

Martin twinged the back at training during the week and it is not expected to hamper him for too long.

Small forward Brandon Matera and defender Henry Schade were also left out of the final 26-man squad.

For the Lions, clever half-forward Allen Christensen and young defenders Harris Andrews and Darcy Gardiner have been left out.

Mitch Robinson will captain the Lions for the first time.

ADELAIDE VS WEST COAST
Unley Oval (Adelaide), 1.35pm ACDT, February 21

ADELAIDE fans will have to wait for their first glimpse of Troy Menzel in a Crows jumper, with the former Carlton forward not among the club's 26 that will take on West Coast at Unley Oval on Sunday.

Menzel, Rory Sloane and Sam Shaw were all left out of the Crows' NAB Challenge side but a club spokesman confirmed injuries played no part in their omissions.

The Crows will blood draftee Wayne Milera, while recruits Paul Seedsman and Dean Gore will debut for the club – as will Mitch McGovern and Harry Dear.

Despite the mercury tipped to reach 36 degrees and the AFL invoking its extreme heat policy, the Eagles have decided to play with 25 players rather than the allowable 26.

Reigning club champion Andrew Gaff, Sharrod Wellingham, Jamie Cripps and Andrew McGinnity have stayed home in Perth after being selected in the original 29-man squad.

Recruits Lewis Jetta and Jon Giles will suit up in Eagles colours for the first time, while key defender Mitch Brown makes his competitive return after a knee reconstruction ruined his 2015 campaign.

Draftees Matt Allen, Luke Partington, Tom Cole and Jordan Snadden will all get a run as well.

Under the extreme heat policy, the quarters will be reduced to 22 minutes and the players will now have eight-minute breaks at quarter and three-quarter time and 25 minutes at half-time.
