IAN CALLINAN will captain Adelaide's reserves next season after recently being appointed an assistant development coach with the club.

Callinan was delisted by the Crows this year after 32 games in three seasons.

The 30-year-old has extensive SANFL experience with Central District, where he won four premierships, two best and fairests and a Jack Oatey Medal for being best afield in the 2010 Grand Final.

Reserves coach Heath Younie said Callinan was a great choice as skipper.

"Ian is a strong leader and mentor, he understands the competitiveness of the SANFL competition and he also understands what it is like to be trying to earn AFL selection," Younie said.

"He will be good for all our State League players, whether they are experienced players coming back to the SANFL, young Crows trying to impress or the development players."
