The 2025 Marsh AFL National Development Championships – U16 Boys will launch with a double-header at Melbourne Avalon Airport Oval over the King’s Birthday long weekend.

The Championships will feature 10 teams competing across two pools, with matches to be played across the country over the next five weeks.

South Australia, Victoria Country, Victoria Metro and Western Australia will compete in Pool A.

Six teams will compete in Pool B, including the Brisbane Lions Academy, Gold Coast Suns Academy, GWS Giants Academy, Northern Territory, Sydney Swans Academy and Tasmania.

The first round of fixtures will see matches played across four states, commencing with a double-header at Werribee’s Melbourne Avalon Airport Oval on Monday, June 9.

Tasmania will take on the Northern Territory in the opening match from 10:15am AEST, ahead of a clash between Victoria Country and Victoria Metro from 12:45pm AEST.

All matches in the final two rounds of the Championships will be played on the Gold Coast from July 14 to 18 during the school holidays.

The team that finishes top of the standings for each pool will be crowned title winner.

If two teams finish equal on points atop a ladder, the title will be awarded to the team that won the round-robin match between those two teams. If those two sides have not played against each other, or if more than two teams finish equal on points atop a ladder, the title will be awarded to the team with the highest percentage.

Victoria Country (Pool A) and the Sydney Swans Academy (Pool B) are the reigning title holders.

The competition best and fairest awards and an All Australian team will be selected by a panel comprising AFL Talent Pathways staff and AFL club recruiters at the conclusion of the 2025 Marsh AFL National Development Championships – U16 Boys.
