THE QUEUE to get back into the Collingwood senior team is a lengthy one, and coach Nathan Buckley says the Magpie players who do the work at VFL level and keep setting high standards on and off-field will be rewarded.

Magpies Jamie Elliott, Jordan De Goey and Alex Fasolo are all chances to return to the lineup for Friday night's game against Adelaide at Adelaide Oval after standout performances in the VFL at the weekend.

Buckley also nominated Chris Mayne, Jarryd Blair, Rupert Wills and Josh Daicos as the others who are pushing for selection for the game against the Crows.

The Magpies' VFL team trounced the Northern Blues by 130 points at Preston City Oval on Saturday.

"After a game like that the list (potential inclusions) is long. But not just because of a game like that, but because of the body of work that's been put together," Buckley told SEN.

"We've got some solid performers all over the park in the VFL and it's a really strong position to be in. This is the challenge of coaching when you're in this position is to keep rewarding those players for their efforts.

"Each player's time will come, if they persist and continue to do the work and be ready to take their chance when the door becomes ajar."

Elliott booted five goals from 14 disposals in his first match back from a long-term ankle injury, while De Goey, returning from a hamstring complaint, was a standout with 24 touches and four goals.

The pair played between 75 and 80 per cent after their injury setbacks.

Fasolo booted 3.3 and gathered 21 disposals after being named as an emergency for the game against Carlton, with Buckley noting that he has played three solid games in a row.

Returning from a quad strain, Mayne was again named among the side's best players after amassing 34 disposals and laying five tackles, while big-bodied midfielder Wills had 27 touches and 10 clearances.

Veteran small forward Jarryd Blair was named best afield after collecting 28 disposals and kicking two goals.

Buckley used defender Matthew Scharenberg, who missed selection in round one, as an example of a player who has grabbed his opportunity after forcing his way into the team.

"Matty Scharenberg, six weeks ago was a long way off," Buckley said.

"He put a month of really good work in and earned his opportunity to come up (to the senior side) and he hasn't looked back the last couple of games – he's been excellent."

Buckley also noted crafty forward Josh Daicos had his "breakout game" on Saturday, saying it was the best game he's played at either level during his time at the club.
