The Smithy’s VFL teams for Round 14.
Mitch Lewis will make a much-anticipated return from an ACL injury when Box Hill Hawks take on North Melbourne at Arden Street Oval.
The star forward is one of five inclusions for the ladder-leaders, with Coaches MVP runner-up Henry Hustwaite and Calsher Dear also returning. Cam Mackenzie has been called up to Hawthorn, with Sam Frost looks set to be the holdover emergency and Jack Scrimshaw and Cal Porter to miss through injury.
North Melbourne skipper Darcy Macpherson returns for the top-six clash, although Wil Dawson has been elevated and Jackson Archer is ill.
James Tsitas has been named for his 150th Smithy's VFL game when the Gold Coast Suns host Casey Demons at People First Stadium.
The milestone man is one of six changes for the Swans, who also regain Nick Holman but lose Alex Sexton to the AFL side, Caleb Lewis to suspension and four Academy prospects to National Champs duties with the Allies.
Casey will field arguably its strongest team of the year, with AFL premiership duo Jake Lever and Tom McDonald included alongside veteran ruck Tom Campbell and emerging pair Caleb Windsor and Jacob van Rooyen.
Carlton has included AFL-listed quartet Marc Pittonet, Jaxon Binns, Matt Carroll and Corey Durdin, along with co-captain Heath Ramshaw and debutant Oliver Warburton for its clash with Port Melbourne at ETU Stadium on Saturday night.
The Borough have made once change for the Seven Network broadcast game, with Matt Signorello selected for the first time since Round 1.
Mike Manteit and Jesse Joyce return for Southport's clash with Collingwood at Fankhauser Reserve, where the Magpies have been impacted by AFL call-ups and injury with seven forced changes, which includes Charlie West earning an AFL debut and Charlie Dean called up for his first AFL game of the year.
Liam Mackie and Will Elliott return to strengthen the Northern Bullants when they host Richmond at Genis Steel Oval.
The Tigers will be without promoted pair Mykelti Lefau and Jacob Blight, the former called up for his first AFL game since injuring his knee in Round 13 last year, while Mate Colina and Liam Fawcett were both injured in last week's loss to the Western Bulldogs.
An elbow injury will sideline Mitch Cox for Williamstown's home clash with Sandringham at DSV Stadium. Following a spirited loss to Collingwood last week, Harry Boyd, Jack Carroll, Hugo Garcia and Liam Henry have been elevated from Sandringham to St Kilda, with Max Heath the only AFL-listed player added to the Zebras’ line-up.
Frankston is set to again be without Darby Hipwell for its trip to Barry Plant Park to take on Coburg, with the ball magnet again sidelined by a hamstring injury. The Lions have bolstered their ruck stocks with Joe Furphy recalled.
Riley Bice will play his first game in the Smithy’s VFL since the 2024 premiership-decider when they Sydney Swans host Footscray at Tramway Oval on Friday.
The 24-year-old has played 13 AFL games for the Swans this season after being selected with pick 41 in the 2024 Telstra AFL Draft, just two months after playing in Werribee’s Grand Final win over Southport.
Bice will be pushing for a quick recall to the AFL side, with the raking left-footer named in the Swans’ VFL line-up alongside Tom Hanily and Nic Shipley.
Jake Lloyd has been elevated back to the AFL team after starring in last week’s stunning come-from-behind win over Southport.
Ollie Florent has also won his way back into the AFL side, while Ben Paton will miss with concussion and Academy prospect Max King will line-up for the Allies in Sunday’s under-18 National Championships clash with Western Australia.
Zac Walker will play his first game for the Bulldogs since being picked up from the Gippsland Power with pick 12 in the Mid-Season Rookie Draft.
The intercept defender is one of four additions to the Bulldogs line-up, with Jason Johannisen returning to the AFL team and Luke Kennedy (calf), Michael Sellwood (concussion) and Will Lewis (unavailable) all going out of the side that beat Richmond by 45 points last week.
Selected teams for Northern Bullants vs Richmond and Williamstown vs Sandringham will be published from 5:00pm.
BROADCAST AND STREAMING: All matches in the 2025 Smithy’s VFL season will be live streamed free via the AFL website, AFL Live Official App and VFL App. The Seven Network will broadcast a match live and free on 7mate in Victoria and 7plus Sport nationally every Saturday night. This week’s broadcast match will be Port Melbourne vs Carlton.
