A STRONG end to the 2018 season has earned Melbourne midfielder Jay Kennedy Harris a one-year contract extension.

AFL.com.au understands Kennedy Harris has ended uncertainty around his immediate future by signing with the Demons until the end of 2019.

The midfielder played six senior games for Melbourne, all of them coming after round 16 and he was unlucky not to retain his spot in the side for the club's finals campaign.

Kennedy Harris averaged a tick under 15 disposals and five tackles per game in his six matches at senior level, playing predominantly on the wing and in a capacity on the ball.

With co-captain Jack Viney proving his fitness for the club's finals series, Kennedy Harris was the unfortunate player to be left out of the side.

The 23-year-old gathered 18 disposals and kicked a goal in Casey's 10-point Grand Final loss to Box Hill.

Kennedy Harris averaged 21.5 touches from 14 matches for the club's VFL affiliate, kicking 12 goals for the year.

He will be looking to have a big pre-season as the Demons look to again push into premiership contention in 2019.
