MELBOURNE midfielder Dom Tyson will miss the Demons' first final at a minimum, and may not play again this season, after he broke his arm during the second quarter of the big win over the Giants.

Tyson had surgery on Sunday night and is expected to be sidelined for up to three weeks.

Melbourne may also be without Dean Kent for their elimination final against Geelong, after the 24-year-old hurt his AC joint in a shoulder clash with Lachie Whitfield in the opening minutes.

In better news for the Demons, co-captain Jack Viney trained strongly on Sunday morning and is expected to return, while Mitch Hannan – a late withdrawal due to knee soreness – should also be available.

Geelong's Cam Guthrie should be right for the Cats' elimination final against Melbourne, given the game won't be played until September 7. The on-baller received a corkie in the fourth quarter of the big win over Gold Coast and spent the remainder of the game on the bike.

Greater Western Sydney will monitor Rory Lobb ahead of their do-or-die final against cross-town rivals Sydney. Lobb left the field early in the fourth term due to back tightness, but Leon Cameron said post-match it was a precautionary measure. The ruckman was hospitalised after the round 12 win over Gold Coast, before making a surprise return in round 15. Lobb was found to have a small fracture in his thoracic spine.

The Giants' ruck stocks have already been depleted, with Jonathon Patton (ACL) and Dawson Simpson (ankle) done for the season.

Sydney midfielder Dan Hannebery will appreciate a week off, after he copped a corked thigh in the second half of Saturday night's loss to Hawthorn. Hannebery spent some time on the bike, but returned to play out the game.

Carlton will be sweating on the severity of a medial ligament injury to star forward Charlie Curnow. The young gun left the game after falling awkwardly in a marking contest and didn’t reappear. Teammate Jacob Weitering was concussed in a marking contest.

Essendon ruckman Matthew Leuenberger took no further part in Friday's win over the Crows in Adelaide after hurting his calf early in the third term.

Young Western Bulldogs forward Patrick Lipinski was stretchered off after being concussed in a collision with teammate Bailey Williams midway through the final term.

North Melbourne lost talented forward Mason Wood to a hamstring issue late in the second quarter.

Gold Coast's Jack Leslie sustained a right knee injury prior to quarter-time in the loss to Geelong and will be assessed during the week. 

In other injury news:

  • Collingwood's Chris Mayne received treatment on a leg during the first quarter, but returned soon after. Jack Madgen returned before quarter-time, after he needed medical assistance for a bloodied head
  • Geelong's Jake Kolodjashnij required stitches for a cut head following a clash with teammate Lachie Henderson in the opening minutes of Saturday's win. Kolodjashnij returned and completed the match
  • Melbourne's Jake Melksham, who left the field after a head clash with teammate James Harmes, passed a concussion test and finished out the game 
  • West Coast ruckman Nathan Vardy came from the ground with six minutes left in the first half following a head clash with Mitch Robinson. Vardy passed the concussion test and returned after half-time to finish out the game.
  • Port Adelaide recruit Jack Watts reached for his hamstring during the second quarter after stretching for a mark, but played on. Defender Jarrod Leinert copped a knee in the back early in the game, but he too finished the game
  • Essendon's Michael Hurley appeared inconvenienced by his hamstring during the second half, but the defender finished out the match
  • North Melbourne veteran Scott Thompson went off early in the second term with a left ankle and knee problem. After some treatment on the sidelines, Thompson returned. Luke Davies Uniacke was a late withdrawal due to hamstring tightness. 
  • Brisbane duo Dayne Beams and Dayne Zorko both hit the deck after a collision with just three minutes left in the Lions' season. Beams was able to finish out the game, but Zorko appeared groggy and went straight to the bench. The new captain did, however, carry out a post-game interview on the ground.
