JUST as he was solidifying his position in St Kilda's senior side, young forward Josh Battle will miss up to three weeks with a fractured eye socket.

The 19-year-old has played three senior games this season, having made his debut with just one match in 2017.

The Saints confirmed Battle reported soreness around his eye after Sunday's win over Melbourne.

Scans revealed two small fractures, but he won't require surgery.

"Josh has made a significant impact after earning his opportunity against Sydney in round 12,” St Kilda football manager Simon Lethlean told the club website.

"Not only has he been able to hit the scoreboard but has played with great physicality.

"Thankfully the injury doesn’t require surgery, but it will mean that he is sidelined for a short period.”

Battle has kicked a total of six goals in his three games this season, including three against Gold Coast in round 13.

He was recruited by the Saints with pick 39 at the 2016 NAB AFL Draft.

St Kilda faces Port Adelaide this Saturday with games against Carlton and Richmond in the following weeks.
