FREMANTLE has lost patience with Cam McCarthy, axing the underperforming spearhead and recalling veteran goalsneak Hayden Ballantyne for Sunday's clash with Adelaide at Optus Stadium.

Small forward Brandon Matera also returns for the Dockers, with the ex-Sun replacing superstar Nat Fyfe (suspended) following a 20-disposal, three-goal display after being sent back to Peel last round.

McCarthy has been dropped after booting three goals and averaging eight disposals in the past five games.

It is the second time the 23-year-old has been omitted since joining Freo, after he missed the round 23 loss to Essendon last season.

The ninth-placed Crows (6-5) will be desperate to bounce back in Perth after back-to-back defeats and recalled skipper Taylor Walker and young forward Myles Poholke.

Hard-running forward Tom Lynch (side strain) and All Australian defender Rory Laird (hand) make way.

Meanwhile, Essendon has made four changes for the trip north for a must-win clash with Brisbane.

The Bombers (4-7) are facing an uphill battle to stay in finals contention and have recalled Josh Green, David Myers, Mitch Brown and Mason Redman.

It will be Redman's first senior appearance since 2016.

Jayden Laverde has been axed alongside tall forward James Stewart, while David Zaharakis and Jordan Ridley are injured.

The Lions (1-10) have regained young gun Jarrod Berry (hamstring) while Sam Mayes is set for his 100th game after also being called up.

Hard nut Mitch Robinson (toe) and star forward Charlie Cameron, who is out for the season after tearing a Lisfranc ligament, make way.

Melbourne and Collingwood will reveal their 22-man teams at 4pm AEST on Saturday ahead of Monday's Queen's Birthday clash at the MCG.
