COLLINGWOOD defender Ben Reid has been ruled out for up to a month to nurse a quad injury he sustained in Saturday's three-point loss to Greater Western Sydney.

The injury-prone 28-year-old has featured in all but one game for the Magpies this season after being rested in round six, averaging 16 disposals and eight marks.

Collingwood football manager Geoff Walsh said scans on Monday revealed the extent of Reid's latest setback.

"Ben had a scan today after coming off the ground late in the game," Walsh told collingwoodfc.com.au on Monday evening.

"Subsequently, the scans have shown he has injured his quad, and he is likely to miss 3-4 weeks."

Reid's 2016 campaign was cut short by a posterior cruciate ligament injury that required surgery and delayed his pre-season.

The 196cm backman has battled calf and quad issues over the past three seasons, which restricted him to four games for the Magpies in 2014 and five in 2015.

Reid has played 128 games for Collingwood since debuting in 2007.
