SYDNEY superstar Lance Franklin has had ankle surgery and will not be attending Monday night's Brownlow Medal count.

The Swans have allayed fears the spearhead could miss any significant time, with Franklin expected to resume pre-season training with senior teammates on December 4.

The nature of the surgery is minor, according to the Swans.

Franklin, 30, booted 73 goals in 24 games, taking home this year's Coleman Medal after a 10-goal haul in the final round of the home and away season against Carlton.

The superstar could feature prominently in this year's count after being named an All Australian for a seventh time this season.
