QUEENSLANDER Emma Zielke will lead the Brisbane Lions' women's team.

The highly decorated Zielke – a state captain and twice QWAFL best and fairest – said she was "honoured and chuffed" to be the club's inaugural women's skipper.

"I'm so proud to be able to lead you girls out there and I feel like we're going to be really competitive," the midfielder told her teammates after coach Craig Starcevich confirmed her appointment on Thursday.

"It's really well deserved," said Brisbane Lions Women's CEO Breeanna Brock.

"She'll be a great spokesperson, not only for the group, but for the club as a whole and lead us really strongly."

The 28-year-old Zielke, who works for the Lions as an administration officer, will share leadership duties with Sabrina Frederick-Traub, Sam Virgo, Leah Kaslar and Emily Bates.
