SYDNEY swingman Sam Reid is ready to put a frustrating 2016 campaign behind him after an injury-free pre-season.

Reid didn't add to his 98 career games for the Swans last year, with hamstring, calf and Achilles problems plaguing the versatile 196cm big man.

But Reid has enjoyed an uninterrupted summer on the training track and feels in career-best shape.

"I've been able to complete most of the pre-season so far, it's been a lot better than previous years," Reid told the club's website.

"2016 was very frustrating. I felt like I was two weeks away for about six months of the year – it gets old pretty quick.

"But being able to get through my first pre-season so far, touch wood injury-free, has been a positive and I'm looking to keep that going."

Reid was close to a return from persistent Achilles tendon issues late last season, as the Swans made it through to the Grand Final.

Although he fell short of a comeback, the 25-year-old was ready for day one of pre-season and is now targeting a playing return in the upcoming JLT Community Series.

"The amount of prehab and rehab work I’ve done in the build-up to this pre-season, the number of kilometres I was able to get into my legs in the off-season, has surpassed any previous seasons," Reid said.

"That was the target – get to a stage at the end of the year so I was back to full training and, if the worse was to happen and we had a heap of injuries, I’d be available to play.

"We got to that point and I was able to have a normal off-season, complete all the running, and put myself in good stead for pre-season.

"I take a lot of confidence out of that and I hope that can hold me in good stead right up until the season starts."
