BOTH the Giants and the Swans have picked extremely strong lineups for their Sydney derby clash in the JLT Community Series in Blacktown on Friday night.

GWS co-captains Callan Ward and Phil Davis will play their first competitive game of the year, with club champion Toby Greene, Heath Shaw, Steve Johnson, Stephen Coniglio, Shane Mumford and Tom Scully also among the big names recalled.

Greater Western Sydney have left youngsters Harry Perryman and Harrison Himmelberg out of their final 26-man squad, along with dashing defender Nathan Wilson, who starred in their opening game against West Coast in Narrandera, while Sydney have opted to trim versatile draftee Jack Maibaum, and defenders Nic Newman and Colin O'Riordan from their side.

The Swans have named plenty of stars with triple-Coleman medallist Lance Franklin leading the way, while All Australian Dane Rampe, Heath Grundy, Jake Lloyd and ruckman Sam Naismith will also debut for season 2017.

With Sydney's recent run of wet weather, the conditions will be tough for the players, with storms predicted for late on Friday night.
