ADELAIDE defender Jake Lever and midfielder Hugh Greenwood are having their training loads managed ahead of next Friday night's preliminary final.

Both players completed only limited work at the club's open training session at Football Park on Thursday.

Lever was restricted to running at three-quarter pace around the boundary line, while he also did some standing kicking drills with an assistant coach.

Lever – who has been named in the 40-man All-Australian squad for the first time – was sidelined for five games this season with hamstring issues.

He missed the round one and two games against Greater Western Sydney and Hawthorn, the round eight loss to Melbourne and rounds 18 and 19 against Geelong and Collingwood.

But the in-demand 21-year-old has played the past four games, including having 15 possessions and taking four marks for the Crows in their qualifying final win over Greater Western Sydney last Thursday.

Lever's future with the Crows beyond this year remains uncertain having been linked to the Demons and the Magpies.

Greenwood jogged laps as the Crows carefully monitor the 25-year-old's workload in his first full season of senior football.

The former basketballer joined the club as a Category B rookie at the start of 2015 and spent last year in the SANFL.

He made his AFL debut in round nine and hasn't missed a beat since, averaging 16.8 possessions and 7.2 tackles in his 13 games.

Greenwood was rested for the round 23 clash with West Coast in Perth, but had 19 possessions, including 17 contested, in the qualifying final with the Giants.

It was the Crows' first training session in Adelaide since they returned from a three-day training camp on the Gold Coast on Tuesday night.

The Crows will have a more intense hit-out on Saturday, which will include a match simulation.
